Film offers me the unique ability to preserve and share stories that might otherwise go untold—whether through intimate documentaries that give people space to speak for themselves, or experimental pieces that push the boundaries of how we experience narrative. My documentary work functions as a form of cultural archaeology, uncovering hidden histories like forgotten cemeteries or exploring how Ukrainian-American families navigate identity across generations. I'm drawn to observational storytelling that lets subjects guide their own narratives, though I'm not afraid to ask the pointed questions that reveal deeper truths. Film captures what other mediums can't—the movement of traditional dance, the weight of a pause in conversation, the texture of a place that holds memory. While I wear many hats out of necessity, editing is where I find my strongest voice, piecing together fragments of story and experience into something whole. I'm equally energized by experimental work that plays with perspective and technology, seeing it as essential to keeping the medium fresh and surprising. Ultimately, my film work serves as both preservation and exploration—documenting the stories we might lose while discovering new ways to tell them.
