The Autoethnography of Len Zaratoga
I created an 8-piece postcard series based on the fictional Mount Kiligantian, which existed as a hoax Wikipedia page for over 11 years before it was finally detected and deleted. This speculative fiction project centered on a character of my own creation, "Len Zaratoga," a travel photographer documenting places significant to his family history; my goal was to craft a believable narrative through a simple souvenir. To this end, I used period-appropriate design choices, including 2011 copyright dates and fonts popular in America that year (EB Garamond and Montserrat), and I researched Philippine geography, regional wildlife, and postcard distribution networks. I used AI tools (Adobe Firefly and ChatGPT) for content generation and Figma for design execution. Below are the final pieces alongside documentation of my research and design process.
